It's been a memorable week here in weather-obsessed Montreal: after not-so-stoically enduring a damp & chilly June/July, we finally got our summer heatwave in mid-August. But even with temps that "feel like" over 40 degrees, I'm not hearing many complaints - perhaps we need a little heat- and humidity-induced discomfort to really feel we've had a true experience of summer, before heading back into the abyss?
Don't be misled, however: the ultra-modern CKUT production studios are strictly climate-controlled using the latest technology, with the comfort of programmers always the prime consideration. During last Saturday's show, this allowed Swan and myself to keep our heads above water & bring you a quality musical variety program featuring the likes of:
Doom, Roland Kirk, Stevie Wonder, James Black, Hortense Ellis, Otis Rush, Shell Street Orchestra, The Models, The Ravens (The Kinks), The Soulful Strings, Voice Of The Seven Woods/ Supreme Vagabond Craftsman, Cidadão Instigado, Datetenryu, Cseh Tamás (RIP!), Robert Charlebois, Deerhoof, Kathy Kennedy, Bernard Bonnier, Comus, Tinariwen, Les Paul, Joe Meek & The Blue Men,Raymond Scott, White Noise (featuring Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop/Unit Delta Productions, whose studio is pictured here), Black Mold, & Sixtoo!
What? You say you didn't even think about turning on the radio that night? No problem, just donwload the show as an mp3 and then listen back over & over again:
- 64 kbps (about 55 MB)
There you go... we advise you to keep cool and maintain your level vibes until the Free Kick comes at you again, on Saturday evening August 29 from 9-11 pm eastern on CKUT 90.3 fm in Montreal.
