Well, there are always certain limits of course, but thankfully Shawn and I were able to saunter unsupervised into the CKUT studios last Saturday and just play whatever the hell we wanted - hopefully with positive results for you, dear listeners.
Our "slap happy new year" edition of Freekick featured music by artists like: The Who, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Gil Scott-Heron, Sons of the Kingdom, Exuma, Miles Davis (feat. Hermeto Paschoal), Alton Ellis, The Specials, Turlu Tursu, Peter Tosh, The Souljazz Orchestra, Inflatable Boy Clams, Jay Reatard, American Devices, Can, Afrirampo (pictured here in a photo by Gabu Chan), Can, Syrinx, Alvarius B, Pretty Things, Brian Eno, Baby Dee, The Unsettlers, Baby Gramps, Tokyo Incidents, and Lennie Hibbert!
Because the evening of Jan. 17 will be devoted to a live broadcast in celebration of Art's Birthday, the next real Free Kick show will be Jan 31 from 9-11 pm eastern on CKUT 90.3 fm. Please make a resolution to be with us!
Dave
