June 7, 2008 - Un Freekick Steamé
Yes folks it's been mighty hot & muggy here in Montreal recently, but somehow we managed to avoid shorting out any important equipment as we sweated through last weekend's Free Kick show, broadcast from CKUT's newly renovated, tastefully appointed master control room.

You know, Shawn and I never discuss in any detail what music each of us has picked out for an upcoming show. This makes it pretty incredible that for almost 2 1/2 years, up until last Saturday, we have never collided by playing the same artist. But this time the occasion couldn't be overlooked by either of us: the passing of Bo Diddley, a fountainhead of rock & roll rhythm, poetry and style. We both had to send out our dedications to remember this musical titan. Hey Bo Diddley, rest in peace!

Look for a link to great video footage of vintage Bo Diddley in the Free Kick Video Lounge section of this post, a bit further down.

Here's the complete list of all the artistes we featured on last Saturday's program: J Dilla, Public Enemy, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Cameo, Johnny Otis Show, Diamond Joe, Bo Diddley, Jimmy McGriff, American Devices, Hawkwind, Momus, The Billy Cobham - George Duke Band, Sun City Girls, Sun Ra Arkestra, Evangelista (vocals: Carla Bozulich), The Band, Mashmakhan, Rush, Death, Enzo Jannacci, Wimme, El Club de Tobi, and Sixtoo !

Download the whole show as an mp3 if you like:
or just stream it from the CKUT archives: ask for Sat June 7 from 21:05 to 23:00.

Next show is Saturday June 21 from 9-11 pm eastern on CKUT 90.3 fm in Montreal. Please join us - it's guaranteed to be cooking!
