I'll just fly away on my sky-blue horse... Oh don't be afraid, I am simply taking my title from the somewhat insane lyrics to "Cannibal" by Ennio Morricone. I'm not sure, but a look at Liliana Cavani's I Cannibali, the film in which it appears, might help to make some sense of this bizarre piece of songcraft. I'll let you know...
This edition of Free Kick featured more than a couple of pieces of film music, including the title themes from The Glass Key and Kenji Mizoguchi's Ugetsu (recently rereleased on DVD, this treasure features an exceptionally great soundtrack, with music by Fumio Hayasaka).
I'm liking this concept, so expect to hear more soundtrack stuff in the future!
Other artists played on Saturday's show were Andreas 13 w/Terminator X, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Piney Brown, Johnny Otis Show, Pat Lewis, Brother Jack McDuff, Betty Davis, Souljazz Orchestra, Eddie Palmieri, Hermeto Paschoal, Caetano Veloso, Ivor Cutler, Kevin Ayers, Flower Travelling Band, John Tchicai, Robert Wyatt, Lata Mangeshkar, Tlahoun Gessesse and the Argentinisches Tango-Orchester.

Or, stream it from the CKUT archives: ask for Saturday April 14 from 21:05 to 23:04. And you know what, I actually continued the program unofficially to fill in for an absent Wag, right up until just before midnight, so keep on listening if you're feeling it.
That's it for now. Next show is April 28 from 9-11 pm eastern on CKUT 90.3 fm. Advance warning: this will be the CKUT Good Vibrations 2007 funding drive edition of the Free Kick, so get your dialing fingers and chequebook/credit card ready! Don't make us come looking for you!
ciao
Dave
