February 28, 2010 - Weh Mi Free Kick Deh
Be honest listeners, is we is or is we ain't among radio's most unwanted? Swan's presentation of scientifically determined "least liked music" at the end of last Sunday's show bore an eerie resemblance to many staples of your average Free Kick show... except perhaps for the rapping opera singer, something I can guarantee you will never hear again on the show (right, Swan?)

At any rate, my own qualitative research assures me that music featured in the rest of the show is highly regarded by a wide cross-section of the listening public. This included specimens by
John Coltrane Quartet, Roland Kirk, Cedric Brooks & the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Andy Palacio & the Garifuna Collective, Mr. Peters and his Boom & Chime, Tinariwen, Blues Section, Pekka Streng, Invaders (South Africa), Chet Atkins & Les Paul, Chavela Vargas, Milky, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Pretty Things, Marc Almond, György Ligeti, Poapa and Pameok, ? (Aka Pygmies), Stars of Harmony, Komar & Melamid and Dave Soldier, and Johnny Osbourne!

Conduct your own study by reviewing the MP3 data at your leisure:
Or stream the show from the CKUT archives page... this one went from 11:00 to 13:03 on Sun Feb 28.

Join us again for more investigation into the boundaries of musical taste, next Sunday March 7 from 11 am to 1 pm on CKUT 90.3 fm!

February 21, 2010 - Strange Things
Strangely enough, I can't say that I noticed anything much out of the ordinary on last Sunday's edition of the Free Kick show - just the usual musical meshugas, though without the technical glitches to which I have almost become accustomed.

The musical roll call for this particular drill included: Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Roland Kirk, Junie, Traffic Sound, Slim Harpo, Bud Powell, The Barry Sisters (pictured here), Kronos Quartet and Asha Bhosle, Gitans de Sarajevo, Olli & The Bollywood Orchestra, Kal, Asha Bhosle, Yat-Kha, Roky Erickson, Carlos Gardel, Ray Anderson Han Bennink & Christy Doran, Die Trip Computer Die, The Fall, The Irish Rovers, Robert Hunter, Rolling Stones, Soup, The Dresden Dolls and Shalabi Effect!

Check it out again via the magic of mp3:
Or stream it from the CKUT archives page: the Sun Feb 21 show went from about 10:59 to 13:01.

Do check back with us again next week, Sat Feb 28 from 11 am to 1 pm on CKUT 90.3 fm! It just wouldn't be the same without you!
