November 10, 2007 - Further Adventures of Free Kick in the Home of the Beaver
It's the time of year when many northern mammals start to prepare for hibernation, and we at Free Kick are no different - the stockpiles of mystery novels, DVDs, red wine etc. etc. are already in place for the season. However, we give you our solemn pledge that we will continue to emerge every couple of weeks on the waves of CKUT 90.3 fm to kickstart our musical machine and keep the vibes flowing.

Last Saturday's show had subtle hints of a focus on current Canadian artistes along with much discussion of CKUT's anniversary celebration: twenty years between your ears! Can you believe it? CKUT has been broadcasting on the FM band since the fall of 1987 - the year of Bad, Sign O' The Times, Pleased to Meet Me and Locust Abortion Technician, among other notable musical occurrences!

If you feel like celebrating this event in style, you still have time to pencil in CKUT's anniversary party: it's going down at Sala Rossa, 4848 St-Laurent on Thursday Nov. 15 from 9 pm and features Andy Williams (the Goods), DJ Static & Professor Groove (WeFunk), Tashish (Future Classic), the Microtone Kitchen (Montreal Sessions) and a very special birthday big band led by David Ryshpan & Sean Winters (Jazz Euphorium). So come by, say hi & have some cake with us.

To get back last Saturday's adventures, if you want to (re)check for yourself where they took us, you can just download the show as an mp3 using the following handy linkage:
Or stream the show from the CKUT archives page: go for the show from Saturday Nov. 10 between 21:03 and 23:04.

This one featured the following artistes:

Buck 65, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Chico Science & Nacao Zumbi, Sixtoo, The Budos Band, Raul Seixas, Jorge Ben, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Hermeto Pascoal, Pascal Comelade, Alamaailman Vasarat, Smoosh, Jeffrey Lewis, Kid Koala, Momus, Captain Beefheart, Sir Richard Bishop, Nihilist Spasm Band, Alexandre St. Onge, Maxime de la Rochefoucauld, Sea of Song Trio, Robert Wyatt, Nada Shakti with Bruce Becvar, Margaret Heenan, Rick Fines, Bachir Attar, Lillian Allen, and Booker T. & the MGs!

OK that's it for now! See you at the party tomorrow... and do drop by for the next edition of Free Kick on CKUT 90. fm, Nov 24 from 9-11 pm eastern.

cheerio
