October 27, 2007 - Monstah!
Boo! Hey I have to admit, the latest edition of the Free Kick show included way more Halloween-related music than I ever would have expected... Sorry if you were frightened, boys and girls. I found it kind of unnerving myself.

But wait: a quick look back at last Saturday's playlist reveals that we explored musical moods well beyond...... terror! Featured artistes include: Dimitri Tiompkin, Wu Tang Clan, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Junie, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Allen Toussaint, The Staples Singers, Brainstorm, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Hombres, Patti Smith, Ron Pates' Debonaires, Jeffrey Lewis, The Mbuti Singers, Gong, Larry Ellis & Black Hammer, Serge Gainsbourg, The Black Lips, Magik Markers, Jay Reatard, Goblin, Black Sabbath, Bad Brains, The Cramps, Tom Waits, Alamaailman Vasarat, Harmonia Ensemble & Kocani Orkestar, Warsaw Village Band, Iva Bittová, and Pierre Henry & Michel Colombier!

September 29, 2007 - Way Down in Free Kick Land
Hello all you listeners and readers, both real and imaginary! We hope this finds you in fine fettle.... For our part, we have been laying low since last Saturday's Free Kick show, conserving energy to see us through the marathon of cool shows being offered by this year's Pop Montreal festival.

From Oct. 3-7, the Plateau and Mile End (and downtown too I suppose) will be overrun by legions of bands, fans, music industry & media types and everything in between. Check it out: not only Pere Ubu, Half Japanese and Patti Smith, but also Pagliaro (!), Gary Lucas, Fred Wesley (w/Socalled), Cody ChesnuTT, some of the "From Jamaica to Toronto" personalities, Jay Reatard, Aa, Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, DJ/Rupture and so many more will be stopping by to delight us - so here's to good times, a few beers and great live music [clink]!

This Saturday's Free Kick featured music by some of the above, along with other totally untied-in musicians of note: Madlib, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, James Brown (w/Bobby Byrd - RIP), Lyn Collins, The Gaturs (feat. Willie Tee - RIP), Tunji Oleyana and the Benders, Cedric Im Brooks and the Light of Saba, The Hitch-Hikers feat. the Might Pope, Girl Talk, The Pinker Tones, Augustus Pablo. Linton Kwesi Johnson, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Gigi, Marie Osmond, The Tammys, The Pretty Things, Animal Collective, The Unireverse, Aids Wolf, Marilyn Lerner, Pere Ubu, Alamaailman Vasarat, Tom Waits, The Velvet Underground, Pixies, Fear, Violent Femmes, Patti Smith and Kraftwerk!
